Who we are

ScrapIQ is operated by [Business Name], registered in England and Wales. Our registered address is [Business Address].

For data protection queries, contact us at privacy@scrapiq.co.uk.

What data we collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to provide our services:

  • Newsletter subscribers: Email address, date and time of subscription, and consent record.
  • Website usage (Google Analytics 4): If you consent via our cookie banner, Google Analytics sets cookies (`_ga`, `_ga_*`) and collects your IP address (truncated before storage), pages viewed, referrer, device type, and approximate location derived from IP. Advertising features, ad personalisation and Google Signals are disabled. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is sent — we use Google Consent Mode v2 with all defaults set to denied.

How we use your data

  • Newsletter: To send you weekly scrap metal price updates, market analysis, and industry news. We will only email you if you have given explicit consent by subscribing and confirming your email address (double opt-in).
  • Analytics: To improve our website content and user experience. This data is aggregated and anonymous.

Legal basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, we process your data based on consent (Article 6(1)(a)). You give consent when you subscribe to our newsletter and confirm your email address. You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.

Where your data is stored

Newsletter subscriber data is stored and processed by our email service provider. We do not store your email address on our own servers. Our provider acts as a data processor on our behalf and is contractually obligated to protect your data.

If data is transferred outside the UK, appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with UK GDPR requirements.

How long we keep your data

We retain your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to our newsletter. If you unsubscribe, your data will be deleted within 30 days. Consent records may be retained for up to 3 years after unsubscription for legal compliance purposes.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectify inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time (via unsubscribe link in every email)
  • Lodge a complaint with the ICO (ico.org.uk) if you believe your rights have been infringed

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@scrapiq.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days.

Cookies

ScrapIQ uses two types of storage:

  • Strictly necessary: A single scrapiq_cookie_consent value in your browser's local storage to remember your cookie preference. No consent required under PECR.
  • Analytics (optional, consent-based): Google Analytics 4 cookies (_ga, _ga_*), set only after you click “Accept”. These expire after 2 years. You can revoke consent at any time by clearing your browser storage for this site; the banner will then re-appear.

We do not use advertising cookies, remarketing tags, or any third-party trackers beyond Google Analytics.

Third parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Personal data is only shared with the following processors:

  • Google (Ireland / US): Google Analytics 4, only when consent is given. Transfers outside the UK rely on the UK IDTA / EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
  • Our email service provider: Newsletter delivery and subscriber management.
  • Our hosting provider: Serves the website; may log IP addresses and request metadata in short-lived access logs for abuse prevention and debugging.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via our newsletter or a notice on this website. The “last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
